Vancouver to Coquitlam Upgrade project summer construction activity

Here’s what you need to know about construction activity on the Vancouver to Coquitlam Upgrade project.

1. Where: East First Avenue in Vancouver between the Highway 1 off-ramp and Boundary Road

When: Between July 4 and August 31

What you need to know:

  • Trenchless (underground) construction will be used to minimize traffic disruptions.
  • Periodic lane closures will be required.
  • All sidewalks, crosswalks and bus stops in the area will remain open.

2. Where: Poirier and Robinson Streets, Coquitlam

When: Poirier Street, July 4 to 21

Robinson Street, July 24 to August 31

What you need to know:

  • We’re installing two laterals to prepare for construction in 2018. Laterals connect the mainline to regulator stations and lower the pressure of the natural gas before it reaches our customers.
  • Poirier Street will be closed between Como Lake Avenue and Grover Avenue, but will remain open to local traffic.
  • Robinson Street will have single lane alternating traffic between Como Lake Avenue and Clarke Road.
  • No parking will be available on Poirier Street or Robinson Street while construction is underway.
  • Water services may be turned off for up to four hours while work is underway. Residents will receive 48 hours advance notice and water services will be restored as quickly as possible.

3. Where: Silver Creek watershed between Underhill Avenue and Production Way, near Burnaby Mountain Urban Trail

When: August 1 to September 15

What you need to know:

  • We’re extending three culverts in the Silver Creek watershed near the Burnaby Mountain Urban Trail to prepare for the new natural gas line.
  • The Burnaby Mountain Urban Trail will be closed between Underhill Avenue and Production Way from August 1 to October 15.
