Learn more about vegetation removal and restoration in Burnaby

Vegetation clearing is about to start in Burnaby as we prepare to upgrade our natural gas line.

Starting in mid-September for about 10 weeks, FortisBC’s contractors will be working along the Broadway corridor between Production Way and Underhill Ave. As part of our work, the multi-use path in this corridor will be improved and realigned.

We are committed to minimizing our environmental footprint, while at the same time removing invasive species and replacing them with local vegetation and wildflowers. We’ve connected with SFU pollinator scientists and Border Free Bees to assist with planning pollinator plantings.

Leslie Kristoff FortisBC Environmental Program Lead

Vegetation clearing must take place before we begin replacing 20 kilometres of existing natural gas line in Coquitlam, Burnaby and Vancouver in 2018. This work is being done to improve the reliability of our system and facilitate easier access for ongoing maintenance so we can best meet the current and future needs of our customers.
