After years of planning, construction of our gas pipeline is set to begin along Finch Drive and Industrial Way in Squamish.Starting January 5, single lane alternating traffic will be in effect on Finch Drive between Loggers Lane and Highway 99. As of January 12, it is anticipated this section will be fully closed to all traffic. Access to the RCMP detachment will continue to be available.The closure will remain in place until construction is completed, currently anticipated for late next year. We encourage folks in the area to build additional time into their commute while this work is underway.Detours will be setup via Highway 99 and Loggers Lane. Please refer to the map below.Signage will be in place, and traffic control personnel will be on site to inform road users of potential impacts.Emergency personnel, including the Squamish RCMP, have been notified about our upcoming work to inform their road usage. Access to the Squamish RCMP detachment will be maintained on Finch Drive from Highway 99 via a temporary entrance that will be set up near the existing access point. This entrance will also be open to the public.We have also been in touch with nearby businesses, residents, and stakeholders to make sure they are aware of the expected traffic impacts and increased noise in the area. FortisBC has received approval from the BCUC for the Tilbury LNG Storage Expansion project. Once constructed, the project will ensure FortisBC can continue to provide reliable and resilient energy services to customers across the Lower Mainland, including during potential system disruptions due to extreme weather. It will replace the original Tilbury facility with a new modern facility that maintains essential gas supply and operational capability.Following our project application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) in December 2020, the BCUC released a decision requesting additional analysis. In October 2024, FortisBC filed supplemental evidence to support the granting of a CPCN that addresses the BCUC’s comments.
