When FortisBC set out to install a new natural gas pipeline between Squamish and Coquitlam, the team knew the path forward would require respectful collaboration with Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation). This relationship helped shape one of the most important aspects of the Eagle Mountain - Woodfibre Gas Pipeline (EGP) Project.

Update on the temporary construction laydown yard near Valleycliffe

We have reached a significant milestone for construction on the Eagle Mountain – Woodfibre Gas Pipeline Project. We are pleased to share we have completed development of the temporary construction laydown yard northeast of Valleycliffe, and it’s now operational. The yard will be used to store equipment and materials, as well as for parking and fuelling. The yard was subject to a Temporary Use Permit which was approved by District of Squamish Council in fall 2024 and issued in spring 2025.As previously communicated, the activities at the temporary construction laydown yard reflect a reduction in uses from initial plans. In particular, we are not using an approximately 2.5-acre portion of land on the west side of the approved area, reducing the number of trees cleared. We appreciate your patience as we worked to complete these activities. We will continue to mitigate impacts, including noise and dust, throughout our use of the property.

Installation is expected to take approximately eight weeks. Please note, this work is happening separately from construction of the new gas pipeline along Industrial Way and Finch Drive, which is expected to begin later in 2025 or early in 2026.We have been in touch with businesses and residents in the area to make sure they are aware of the work, and we will continue to notify them of nearby activities as construction progresses. We thank the public for their patience.
