Remote worksite transportation
FortisBC continues to advance work on the Eagle Mountain – Woodfibre Gas Pipeline Project. Construction has reached a phase where the southern worksite is no longer accessible by road. As a result, workers must be transported by boat and helicopter to access these remote areas. To support this work, FortisBC and its pipeline construction contractor have contracted Helijet to provide air transportation services for a small portion of the crew. Currently, Helijet is operating approximately 18 round-trips daily, with trips in the morning and evening between Vancouver and the Stawamus Indian River Valley. Workers are expected to be transported to remote worksites until October 2026.FortisBC, its pipeline contractor, and Helijet are working to reduce impacts to local communities. Multiple flight paths have been developed using existing flight corridors. Helijet is making efforts to route flights away from more densely populated areas, when feasible and safe to do so, in coordination with air traffic control requirements. Opportunities to further refine flight paths are continually being assessed. All flights meet Transport Canada and NAV CANADA regulations.Thank you for your patience, as we complete this work safely, and as quickly as possible. If you have any questions, we encourage you to reach out to the FortisBC team at [email protected] or 1-855-380-5784. Trenchless construction set to begin in Squamish
After months of preparation, we have reached a significant milestone in the construction of our natural gas pipeline along Finch Drive and Industrial Way in Squamish.Starting as early as May 4, crews will begin the next phase of construction which uses a trenchless method of installation. This prioritizes safety and reduces impact to nearby residents and businesses. The work will begin near the intersection of Queens Way and Industrial Way and will progress east past Highway 99 towards the RCMP detachment on Finch Drive.Trenchless construction will take place 24 hours a day, with noisier activities scheduled during the day whenever possible. This work is expected to be completed by mid-June.From May 4 to 15, intermittent single-lane alternating traffic will be in effect along portions of Queens Way and Industrial Way.Signage will be in place, and traffic control personnel will be onsite to help road users safely navigate around our work zones. Access to businesses will be maintained.Once this section is complete, we anticipate beginning the next phase of trenchless construction along the eastern end of Finch Drive in early summer.
