For four decades, Aspire Richmond has been at the forefront of providing inclusive programs and services for individuals with developmental disabilities in Richmond. As one of the largest non-profit social service providers in the region, Aspire Richmond supports more than 1,200 individuals and families each year, helping them lead fulfilling and connected lives.

Empowering individuals at every stage of life

Aspire Richmond’s services span from infancy through adulthood, offering early intervention for infants, supported childcare and preschool programs, out-of-school care, transition planning for teens and a variety of supports for adults. These services are designed to help individuals and their families dream, plan, learn and grow within their community.

Their holistic approach addresses the unique challenges faced by individuals with developmental disabilities. Their philosophy centers around the belief that everyone has a place and value in their community. This commitment to diversity and inclusion enhances Richmond’s reputation as one of the most livable cities in British Columbia.

Founded by a group of families more than 40 years ago, Aspire Richmond initially focused on providing recreational programs for youth. Over time, their services have expanded significantly to include support for adults, reinforcing their dedication to lifelong care. As CEO Shannon Crofton, a 30-plus-year veteran with the organization, recounts, "Our support begins with babies, with the infant development program, and then we support individuals right through their lives. For example, we have many individuals who are now adults that we’ve supported since they were toddlers. This creates a deep connection with the families and the people we support."

Aspire Richmond’s array of services includes infant development programs, inclusive childcare, preschools and daycares. For adults, they offer housing support, day programs emphasizing volunteerism, community learning, life skills training and employment services. Their extensive employment program empowers individuals to pursue competitive jobs in more than 40 sectors, from banking at VanCity to administrative services at the Auto Mall and retail roles at Home Depot. These opportunities are tailored to everyone’s interests and capabilities.
