In August, members of our Eagle Mountain – Woodfibre Gas Pipeline Project team took part in the 68th annual Squamish Days Loggers Sports Festival. It was a lot of fun to join in the activities and celebrate the summer together in an event everyone looks forward to every year.

Connecting with the community in Squamish

Engaging meaningfully with local residents and businesses is so important for our team in Squamish. We joined the community for this year’s event as participants but also as sponsors. Our participation helped us continue to build vital connections with the community in an event that we know means so much to the people of Squamish.

Chloe Finn, a FortisBC community relations liason reflects on why the festival has such deep roots for families and businesses.

“Squamish Days Loggers Festival brings everyone together in celebration of their community and has for the last 68 years. It’s a reflection of the vibrant and welcoming spirit that’s found here, which is why everyone looks forward to the festival every year. We were happy and honoured to experience that unique spirit of community that the festival represents so well.”

Our team met festival goers at our booth to talk about our project. We also took part in the festivities away from the booth, co-presenting the Kids Festival. It was enjoyable seeing people of all ages taking part in the many activities as they came together as a community. Our team got involved right along with them.

Squamish Days Bed Races—a festival favourite

We participated in the Squamish Days Bed Races, one of the most anticipated and entertaining events of the festival. Our team had a fun, exciting time taking part in the wacky obstacle course.

Chloe explains how the bed race works. “Picture this: a bed on wheels with a five-person team—four pushers and a rider. Each team negotiates a two-block course of obstacles and challenges while lines of spectators cheer everyone on. It was so much fun.”

There were prizes for placements and for costumes. For those wondering if we won: “Let’s just say this,” Chloe said. “With all the fun had, everyone was a winner.”

We can’t wait until next year!

This year’s Squamish Days Loggers Sports Festival was a memorable and fun time for members of our team and for everyone who attended just like it was last year. Thanks to the organizers who put the event together, to those who participated in the activities and to everyone who met us at our booth.

We look forward to more events in the Squamish community as we strengthen our connections with other local businesses and families. We can’t wait to see everyone at next year’s festival!
