Trenchless construction set to begin in Squamish
After months of preparation, we have reached a significant milestone in the construction of our natural gas pipeline along Finch Drive and Industrial Way in Squamish.Starting as early May 4, crews will begin the next phase of construction which uses a trenchless method of installation. This prioritizes safety and reduces impact to nearby residents and businesses. The work will begin near the intersection of Queens Way and Industrial Way and will progress east past Highway 99 towards the RCMP detachment on Finch Drive.Trenchless construction will take place 24 hours a day, with noisier activities scheduled during the day whenever possible. This work is expected to be completed by mid-June.From May 4 to 15, intermittent single-lane alternating traffic will be in effect along portions of Queens Way and Industrial Way.Signage will be in place, and traffic control personnel will be onsite to help road users safely navigate around our work zones. Access to businesses will be maintained.Once this section is complete, we anticipate beginning the next phase of trenchless construction along the eastern end of Finch Drive in early summer. We will continue to provide more details as work progresses.Thank you for your patience, as we complete this work safely, and as quickly as possible. If you have any questions about this work, we encourage you to reach out to the FortisBC team at [email protected] or 1-855-380-5784. Construction milestone reached in Squamish
We’ve reached a major construction milestone on the Eagle Mountain – Woodfibre Gas Pipeline Project with the successful completion of the 3.5-kilometre tunnel beneath the Skwelwil’em Squamish Estuary Wildlife Management Area (Skwelwil’em Squamish Estuary). The tunnelling approach was developed to comply with the Squamish Nation Environmental Assessment Agreement (SNEAA) and to protect the estuary. We acknowledge and thank Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw for their continued engagement throughout design and construction of this tunnel segment. To learn more about this collaboration and the innovative construction approach used, please read our blog and watch Meeting in the Middle – A Tunnelling Journey documentary.Construction activities continue on the remaining 5.5-kilometre hard rock tunnel section beneath Monmouth Mountain. Once tunnelling is complete, work will shift to installing the new natural gas pipelines within the tunnel, which will run from the BC Rail site in Squamish to the Woodfibre LNG site.If you have any questions about the Project, we encourage you to reach out to the FortisBC team at [email protected] or 1-855-380-5784.
