FortisBC receives approval from the BC Utilities Commission (BCUC) for the Tilbury LNG Storage Expansion project

FortisBC has received approval from the BCUC for the Tilbury LNG Storage Expansion project. Once constructed, the project will ensure FortisBC can continue to provide reliable and resilient energy services to customers across the Lower Mainland, including during potential system disruptions due to extreme weather. It will replace the original Tilbury facility with a new modern facility that maintains essential gas supply and operational capability.Following our project application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) in December 2020, the BCUC released a decision requesting additional analysis. Construction Activities in the Valleycliffe Area

Beginning in approximately late October, crews will be conducting controlled blasts along our new right of way just northeast of Valleycliffe. Controlled blasting is a standard construction method used to safely break apart rock to prepare for gas pipeline construction. FortisBC has been conducting blasting activities in the nearby area for several months now.The blasts will occur between the hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday. The pipeline route and trails in the area will remain closed at all times, including Sundays, to maintain public safety. We ask that the public please avoid entering restricted areas during this period. We appreciate your continued patience as we safely complete this work. We will continue working with residents and recreational user groups to notify them of nearby activities as construction progresses. If you have any questions or concerns, or if you would like more information about the project, please contact the FortisBC team at [email protected] or 1-855-380-5784. You can also sign up for our email newsletter for the latest on construction activities.
