Reaching out to families in Squamish
Squamish Community Christmas Care helps people in Squamish during the holidays, serving the community since 1980. They provide support and spread a bit of good cheer to make people feel the spirit of the season, especially when times are tough. The organization’s work empowers and inspires people, including volunteers who pack and deliver hampers of food and toys to those in need. This year, our team felt honoured to take part and get a chance to connect with and support the community here in Squamish in an action-oriented way.
FortisBC community relations liaison (EGP), Chloe Finn explains the importance of lending time and effort to the community as part of the Christmas hamper program.
“For decades, Squamish Community Christmas Care has spread the spirit of giving during the holiday season across the community. It was a privilege to be involved, even in a small way, with the important work the organization does at a time of year that isn’t always easy for many people. Going out and meeting them face to face reminded me of how important creating and nurturing connections to people in this community really is. Many thanks to Squamish Community Christmas Care for the chance to pitch in and to everyone who donated and volunteered.”
Community care in action
Squamish Community Christmas Care members organized the whole event and packed hampers with gifts and treats for the season. On the day we gathered as volunteers, they helped us load the hampers into our cars. From there, the EGP team joined in the effort to deliver them to members of the community.
Everyone involved in volunteering recognized how important this program is for people in Squamish during the holidays. The Surerus Murphy team donated $33,425 worth of toys and money, with most of it coming from workers who wanted to help people in the community in a direct and practical way.
“At Surerus Murphy, we’re committed to supporting local communities,” said Derek Pickford, the company’s charity organizer. “Contributing to the Squamish Christmas Community Care program was a meaningful way to help families during the holiday season. We truly appreciate the opportunity to make a difference for people in Squamish, and we’re proud to do our part in a big way to spread joy and make a positive impact.”
Finding ways to support the community all year long
A new year brings fresh opportunities to connect with the people in Squamish. Chloe Finn is excited to form even stronger ties with the community in 2026.
“Helping out with the Christmas hamper program and meeting people who benefit from the important work that Squamish Community Christmas Care does was such a rewarding experience. As our Eagle Mountain – Woodfibre Gas Pipeline (EGP) Project continues, we’re looking forward to building even stronger community connections through efforts like this that really help people who live and work here in Squamish. It’s exciting to think of the opportunities ahead of us to contribute to the community this year.”
