Thinking both inside and outside of the box is all in a day’s work for the team at ContainerWest, a full service shipping container company headquartered in Richmond, BC.

For more than 40 years the company has offered a wide range of shipping container storage solutions, from sales and rentals to the design, fabrication and delivery of complex custom projects.

According to Rajpal Muker, business analyst with ContainerWest, no project is too big or too small for the company. He says, “Our motto is ‘If you can dream it, we can build it’.”

ContainerWest maintains offices in both BC and Alberta, with approximately 30 of its 40 employees based in Richmond. “The core of ContainerWest is in BC,” says Rajpal. “All of our custom manufacturing is done in our 30,000 square foot manufacturing facility on Mitchell Island.”

ContainerWest has a 30,000 square foot manufacturing facility on Mitchell Island, located in the North Arm of the Fraser River between the cities of Vancouver and Richmond.

Examples of its custom fabrication projects range from adding an extra door to a container, to converting a shipping container to a working office for a construction site and tackling unique, one-off design projects. “I think one of the most interesting projects we’ve done is a glass dining hall for a luxury wilderness retreat,” says Rajpal. “It had floor to ceiling glass windows and a rustic wood interior. Once it was finished, even I found it hard to believe it was made of containers.”

In-house engineering team kicks off design process

The process of turning a client’s vision into reality begins with ContainerWest’s team of engineers. “A lot of custom manufacturers outsource their engineering, but we take pride in having our own in-house engineers,” explains Rajpal. “They work closely with our clients to find out what they need and want. The engineers translate our client’s vision into drawings, then our highly skilled and certified fabrication team brings the product to life.”

Not every project ContainerWest helps with needs custom fabrication, says Rajpal. In fact, taking care of a company’s basic storage needs is one of the most important parts of their business. “It’s what we’ve always done,” says Rajpal. “We’re proud to provide high quality secure storage container solutions.”

ContainerWest is one of FortisBC’s suppliers

ContainerWest has helped FortisBC with onsite storage for several of our major projects, including the Tilbury LNG Expansion in Delta. “We’ve been able to help FortisBC with its varied storage container needs because we’re local, and we’re a full service container provider,” says Rajpal. “From storage solutions to container repairs and modifications, we’ve done a little bit of everything for FortisBC.”

The expansion of FortisBC’s Tilbury LNG facility in Delta, BC is providing economic and employment benefits for the people of Richmond, neighbouring communities and Indigenous communities. We’ve worked with approximately 40 Richmond businesses, including ContainerWest, with total Richmond spending to date of more than $16.5 million and a total of $119 million spent to date with suppliers across BC. If the next phase of expansion is approved, we’ll continue to prioritize hiring local for the project.
